Portes du Soleil is one of the world's largest interconnected ski areas, located in the French and Swiss Alps, with 12 ski resorts and a vast network of {ski_area_km} km of pistes. The area is popular for its excellent lift connections, varied pistes (primarily blue and red) that allow for day trips, and its sunny climate, justifying its name "Gates of the Sun." It is a snow-sure area suitable for all levels, with excellently maintained slopes, modern lifts, and a mix of authentic and modern villages.
Portes du Soleil in Haute Savoie, France runs from 985 to 2254 metres, a vertical drop of 1269 metres. With 310 easy, 210 intermediate and 60 advanced pistes, the terrain is beginner-friendly. 165 lifts serve 580 kilometres of marked pistes. The season usually runs from November to April.

The village has its own small, family-friendly ski area (L'Essert), ideal for beginners and children, as well as access to the enormous 650 km of Portes du Soleil slopes via a ski bus or a connection in neighboring La Chapelle d'Abondance. Besides skiing, other activities include snowshoeing and dog sledding.
Saint Jean d'Aulps

Saint-Jean-d'Aulps is a winter sports destination in France's vast Portes du Soleil ski area, ideal for a natural ski holiday with 40 km of slopes, a 20 km forest circuit, and access to other Portes du Soleil ski areas. The ski season generally runs from mid-December to mid-April.
